Epidemiology exactly means “the study of what is upon the people.” It is acquired from Greek in which epi means ‘upon’, demos, means ‘people’, and logos, means ‘study’, implying that it pertains only to human populations. Although, the word is extensively applied in studies of zoological populations (veterinary epidemiology). Epidemiology is the analysis of the distribution, models, and determinants of health and disease-related situations in specified populations.
