simulation of an international public health emergency Easter Island (indigenous name: Rapa Nui), home to a population of around 6,000 people, mostly indigenous, is a remote Chilean volcanic island territory, located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, some 4,000 kilometers from the South American coast. It is a major tourist destination due to its archaeological sites and renowned Moai, but its geography and the existence of endemic vector-borne diseases make residents and visitors susceptible to public health emergencies. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Chile and the population of Rapa Nui, the BSP conducted in December 2017 a public health emergency simulation of international scope (USPPI) as part of the RSI (2005).
