In general it sometimes happens to everyone to grab an extra bonbon or cookie, while they are actually full. Even with an ongoing buffet, people generally eat more than "the intention", and you are finally bursting with food. For external eaters, however, this is more extreme and is constantly occurring. This is because they have difficulty interpreting their feelings of hunger and satiety and no longer know when their bodies need or don't need food.
